One of the innovative methods that has been gaining traction in the environmental community is using computer games as the medium to not only teach people but also to potentially engage a larger and varied audience. This can be seen with the emergence of various environmentally conscious games which are dubbed by the gaming industry as ‘Serious Games’. However, amongst all the games that were developed, only a few managed to take advantage of modern VR technology to further enhance the experience of players. Thus, this report aims to develop an environmentally conscious VR game called Alien Saviour to aid in the education of young adults in Singapore. The game uses a mix of modern VR technology and popular gaming techniques, like procedural generation and adaptive AI, to show the impacts of wasting natural resources and to educate the player on the fragile balance between humans and our ecosystem. Subsequently, it also teaches the possible consequences of inaction and the irreversible damage that can be done to the planet.
