Summary: | The wideband slot antenna is a very interesting subject of study with many research and examples in recent years. A slot antenna is able to achieve a very large bandwidth on a relatively small and thin substrate. Because of its advantages, it has also been widely used in commercial applications such as satellite ground stations and beacons. A microstrip wideband slot antenna with compact feeding network is proposed here.
The proposed antenna is to have a frequency range of 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz and a return loss of more than 10dB. Agilent’s Advance Design System (ADS) Momentum simulation software is used for the simulation of the proposed antenna and to obtain the relevant and desired results.
The proposed antenna is constructed using a side-slot radiator and two microstrip line resonators. Extensive simulation is subsequently performed using ADS momentum to obtain a good result. This is done by changing and varying the dimensions (length and width) of different parts and sections of the slot and microstrip line of the antenna and observe the results obtained. Subsequently, the most promising results are selected and used to obtain the final results. Changing of any dimension and shapes of the antenna will have many effects on the simulations results. As there are probably thousands of possibilities, and getting the simulation results are extremely time consuming, the results obtained can only be considered one of the better ones and not the best one.
The simulation results of the proposed slot antenna showed that, based on the configuration of its final dimensions, it is able to obtain a return loss that is lower than -10dB. |
