Description
Summary:This project proposes to use statistical approach to quantify the amount of wind power that can be extracted from a wind farm, and then use the information to assess the impact of the wind power injection on power quality. Typically wind turbine generator (WTG) system entails the use of power conditioning unit and due to this equipment, harmonic distortions are inevitably introduced into the network. From a theoretical view-point, wind power injection level can be readily calculated once the wind speed is known. Wind speed data can be gathered at site of the WTG and is usually expressed in certain statistical distribution. Using the wind speed distribution pattern as input to the wind turbine-ac generator-power conditioning unit, the operating status of the power-conditioning unit can also be quantitatively described in terms of probability of occurrence of the firing angle and phase shift of the power converters. A statistical measure of the level of harmonic injection into the network can therefore be expressed in a probabilistic manner.
