| Summary: | With the growing believability and advancement of deepfake technology, this paper endeavours to explore the impact of deepfake technology on the Singaporean population. By scrutinizing individuals' ability to discern authenticity, this study aims to identify the susceptibility of Singaporeans to falling for deepfake content, especially in visual video mediums. The primary aim of this paper is to evaluate the extent of vulnerability among Singaporeans and scrutinize the effectiveness of existing technological safeguards and policies designed to address potential risks associated with deepfakes. These risks include the erosion of trust and national security concerns.
The paper aims to inform future policy discussions and enhance public awareness, facilitating the development of robust protective measures against the new challenges posed by deepfake technology. Motivated by the gaps in the literature on this evolving technology for Singaporeans, this paper contributes empirical insights to the emerging literature on evolving deepfake technology. |
