By comparing the features of the taxonomy with what is required of cultural networks, the findings suggest that taxonomies have clear advantages as knowledge organisation systems, particularly when user-orientation is critical, browsing is the preferred mode of information discovery and documentation practices have yet to be standardised across the institutions.
