The country's education system, renowned for its rigorous curriculum and effective teaching methods, has produced students who excel in mathematical proficiency compared to their global counterparts. However, despite these accolades, Singapore's education system is not without its challenges. One of the notable issues is the heavy reliance on calculators among students, leading to concerns about their mental math abilities and critical thinking skills. Moreover, Singapore's push for incorporating technology has evolved over the years. With advancements in educational technology and the government's support for integrating digital tools into classrooms, there is a growing emphasis on leveraging technology to enhance learning experiences and address educational challenges effectively. This report delves into Singapore's strengths in mathematics education while also highlighting the negative impact of calculator dependency, setting the stage for discussing solutions such as innovative educational technologies like the 'Math With Magic' application. Math With Magic encompasses an Authentication System that verifies the user’s identity, a Quiz System that test students on mathematics equations and a chatbot system that helps students learn more effective ways to do mental sums. The effectiveness of Math With Magic was tested through an extensive user study where almost 80% of students showed substantial improvement. This is a testament to Math with Magic's ability to solve the problems of over-reliance on calculators while also promoting the use of technology in education, particularly in Singapore's context.
