By conducting a questionnaire on 200 undergraduates from various levels of study and academic disciplines in Nanyang Technological University (NTU), this study uncovered that students embrace GenAI and actively utilise it to support their learning. In terms of regulation, students express a preference for a flexible approach where the use of GenAI is permitted in certain aspects but restricted in others. In essence, this study offers a student-centric perspective regarding GenAI, providing valuable insights that NTU and other universities can use to guide their approach and policies regarding GenAI use. This ensures that students’ preferences and needs are met, while promoting effective learning outcomes.
