Summary:This study investigated alternative materials with the incorporation of additive powders into polypropylene (PP) films via manual mixing followed by hot pressing for use in functional textiles while maintaining similar thermal properties, comparable far-infrared (FIR) emissivity, and mechanical properties to graphene. The thermal and mechanical properties of the composites were analysed. The findings show the potential of some additives to be comparable to or exceed those of graphene in terms of FIR emissivity and UV protection. This suggests possible ways to develop more economical and efficient materials for functional fabrics, opening up new opportunities within the health and wellness industry, such as improved thermal- regulated garments and protection against harmful UV light.
