As GenAI continues to get more popular, it is inevitable that students and educators alike will increasingly use it for tasks. The development and technology behind LLMs like ChatGPT were also explored in this paper. The capabilities of ChatGPT were explored in the context of software engineering education, and results were presented. A LLM detector tool, EduAItor, was also developed as a proof of concept, and achieved a total of 91% F1 score. EduAItor is able to outperform commercial products like GPTZero by a significant margin. Recommendations for how GenAI can be responsibly used by students, and how educators can use it to enhance the learning experience and curriculum of students were discussed at the end.
