This report outlines the development and execution of an innovative outreach program aimed at pre-university students, specifically targeting Junior College (JC) students with minimal exposure to Information Technology (IT). The program will be hosted over two days at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), introduces participants to the fundamental principles of enterprise network design, emphasizing its significance in the context of Singapore's Smart Nation initiative. The initiative seeks to integrate pedagogical approaches that relate complex technical concepts to real-world applications, thereby making learning relatable and engaging for students with little to no prior knowledge of IT. The outreach program is meticulously structured to cover crucial topics such as Internet Protocol (IP) addressing, Switchport Security, Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs), Routing Protocols, Access Control Lists (ACLs) and the utilization of Cisco Packet Tracer simulation software for practical, hands-on learning experiences. By engaging with these subjects, students gain a foundational understanding of enterprise network design, the technologies and infrastructures employed in the industry, and the vital role of network security in protecting sensitive data and maintaining trust. A comprehensive review of the literature underscores the importance of network infrastructure in facilitating internet access, information sourcing, and communication, paralleling these concepts with everyday scenarios like navigating traffic to illustrate the flow of data packets within a network.
