A system for augmented feedback during the practice of relay changeovers in swimming

Due to limitations in traditional coaching methods, where visibility issues and subjective assessments can undermine the effectiveness of feedback to the swimmers, it is difficult for coaches to provide valuable feedback to the swimmers. This project aims to create a system integrating advanced tech...

This project aims to create a system integrating advanced technology tools to provide more precise and actionable feedback. Key components of the system include force plates (FPs) and a GoPro camera, which are used to capture detailed performance data such as leg push-off forces and changeover timings. The collected data is then processed and analysed using Python and displayed through a user-friendly interface designed with PyQt5. Several collaboration tools are employed to ensure the proper project management, such as Figma for software page design, Jira for project management, and Git for version control, ensuring efficient workflow and team coordination. The system aims to empower coaches, swimmers, and sports scientists with deeper insights into swimmers’ performance, enabling targeted improvements and optimized training outcomes. Through hardware integration and, subsequently software development, the project has provided users with the ability to measure starting swim performances of dive-off and wall push-off, and relay changeover performance, through the collection of force and video data. To further enhance on the system’s capability, future work will provide more functionalities to improve user-friendliness and detailed comparative analyses.
