Sink node allocations for energy efficient under-water wireless sensor networks

Underwater wireless sensor network (UWSN) is an emerging communication technology, which can monitor the underwater environment and collect data in real time. However, it also faces the difficulty of replacing the sensor battery. Therefore, this research proposes a clustering-based static UWSN energ...

However, it also faces the difficulty of replacing the sensor battery. Therefore, this research proposes a clustering-based static UWSN energy-saving algorithm to deduce the best locations and routing method of cluster heads (CH), and further reduce the energy consumption of the network by adding cluster relays (CR) on the water surface. It analyzes the impact of the number of clusters and the arrangement of CRs. This report uses Python to simulate the underwater environment and test the algorithm, randomly setting the sensor nodes and initial CH and CR positions. It is confirmed that the proposed two algorithms can successfully achieve the reduction of the overall network consumption energy by updating the more suitable CH positions and CR positions. This report can provide a benchmark for future dynamic UWSN protocols to adapt to a wider variety of underwater environments.
