Summary:The Electronic Health Record (EHR) system plays a crucial role in modern healthcare by facilitating the storage and exchange of patient medical records among healthcare providers. However, challenges such as data security, scalability, and interoperability hinder the efficiency of EHR management. This thesis explores the integration of blockchain technology to address these issues within the EHR domain. Leveraging blockchain's decentralized and immutable nature enhances the security of the EHR storage system. Additionally, the adoption of standardized medical data types like Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and off-chain database storage promotes interoperability and scalability in managing medical records. A user-friendly web application, MyMedtrace, is developed as a final solution, incorporating blockchain technology to tackle these challenges. Through a comprehensive examination of existing literature, case studies, and empirical research, this study assesses the feasibility and effectiveness of blockchain in transforming EHR systems. Furthermore, practical implementations and outcomes are discussed, paving the way for future advancements in healthcare data management.
