Summary: | This abstract presents an overview of Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) ultrasonic testing applied to Additive Manufacturing (AM) components. AM technology offers complex components with high precision but presents challenges in quality assurance due to internal structures and potential defects. Conventional ultrasonic testing faces limitations in inspecting AM components therefore, EMAT technology, utilizing electromagnetic fields for ultrasonic wave generation and detection, offers a promising solution which the paper intends to investigate.
The project explores EMAT principles, highlighting its advantages over traditional UT methods and addressing challenges in AM component inspection. It covers various topics, including EMAT coil sensor design and implementation, evaluation of wave propagation characteristics through a systematic approach involving fixed coil with varying magnet, fixed magnet with varying coil, comparison of single versus stacked magnet configurations, additional testing procedures, sample thickness evaluation and defect detection in two different samples. In summary, the paper presents intriguing findings derived from the experimental process and outlines future research directions. |
