Summary: | There are plenty of opportunities for mingling and forming enduring friendships during
one's time at university. However, social conventions and anxieties frequently place
restrictions on students, especially in tutorial sessions where interaction is minimal
unless required for group work. This innate shyness reduces the likelihood of candid
conversation and mingling, which leaves many students to make do with few personal
ties as they pursue their education.
To tackle this problem, we present a new smartphone app that aims to encourage
university students to socialize in the small-group environment of tutorial lessons. Our
application facilitates communication and peer engagement among students, even those
who are more introverted, by establishing a customized chatroom for every tutorial
session, all without requiring disclosing your identity.
With this virtual area for interaction, students may strike up discussions and possibly
create new friendships without having to worry about looking weird in person later on.
By fostering a more diverse and cohesive student body, our application seeks to
dismantle social barriers, stimulate engagement, and improve the university experience
as a whole. |
