Summary: | From past volcanic eruptions, it shows there is a need for better observations to mitigate
large costs incurred by the risk of volcanic ashes. Existing coverage of volcanic eruptions
are poor in the temporal aspect, and there are limited in measurements from existing
satellites because they are not purpose built for measuring volcanic ashes and their poor
revisit meant that they are not at the right place at the right time to capture the eruption.
Hence, there is a need for a proposed low-cost satellite mission to overcome these
limitations and to provide the end users with information that they require for a more
accurate forecasting of volcanic ash plumes to minimize costs incurred from eruptions. |
