Current MPC systems are typically deployed in the form of software, bundled as part of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) service. However, high initial and subscription costs for commercial ERP solutions are a hurdle for adoption by start-ups and small businesses. To overcome this challenge, we have developed a cost-effective MPC solution that provides users with three key MPC functions: demand forecasting, Master Production Scheduling, and Material Resource Planning. The product data used in the software was referenced from the case study “Wilkins, A Zurn Company: Material Requirements Planning” from the Richard Ivey School of Business. This software will allow manufacturers to explore MPC-based decision-making without the need for a hefty capital commitment. At the same time, it can serve as a training tool for educators, allowing students to gain hands on experience with the workings of a basic MPC system.
