Design and optimization of doubly salient variable reluctance motor

Permanent magnets (PM), especially PM synchronous motor are the most demanded motors in the market. Even though there are advantages, there are disadvantages such as high cost and thermal instability. Thus, to help ease the disadvantages, doubly salient variable reluctance motors are proposed. They...

Even though there are advantages, there are disadvantages such as high cost and thermal instability. Thus, to help ease the disadvantages, doubly salient variable reluctance motors are proposed. They are cheaper due to less to no rare-earth material used, offer excellent thermal management and high-temperature withstanding ability. Thus, this project aims to get the optimal performance of the doubly salient variable reluctance motor by using a simulation software called JMAG Designer. This report will share about how to use the software, design the motor geometry, add motor parameters, and discuss the obtained results as well.
