Summary: | Food waste poses a significant challenge globally, with Singapore grappling with its own share of the issue. According to the National Environment Agency, food waste accounts for a notable portion of the country's total waste output. Concurrently, findings from the Lien Centre for Social Innovation reveal a concerning prevalence of food insecurity among resident households. Despite the surplus of food generated by various sectors such as restaurants, hotels, catering companies, and event planners, much of it goes to waste due to logistical challenges and perceived costs. Consequently, there is a pressing need to establish an efficient food donation system to bridge the gap between surplus food and those in need. The primary objective of this project is to develop a mobile application tailored to facilitate food redistribution efforts. This platform aims to streamline the process of food donation by providing guidance on logistical operations, information management, and quality control. By leveraging technology, the app seeks to establish seamless communication channels between food donors, charitable organizations, and individuals facing food insecurity. Through features designed to optimize the donation process, such as real-time inventory tracking and scheduling capabilities, the app endeavors to minimize food waste while maximizing the impact of donations. |
