With their bodies growing weaker, unexpected falls at home becomes a problem for the elderly. According to the National University Health System (NUHS), roughly one-third of elderly aged above 65 in Singapore suffered at least one fall, with 40% of those falls accounting for injury related deaths [1]. Therefore, a way to detect falls when the elderly are at home alone will be useful, as help can be rendered to them more quickly, and this project aims to develop a system to perform this function. This project consists of two parts, the first part involves a real-time locating system which will be able to track the location of the elderly within the network of sensors placed in their house. The second part of the project involves the sensor being able to detect a possible fall suffered by the elderly wearing the sensor, and sending an alert to the caregiver’s computer to alert them of the possible fall.
