The project involved the development of an easy-to-use mobile application for scanning, detecting and displaying nearby BLE devices, especially beacon devices. The application was developed and implemented in Android platform using BLE technology to interact with compatible devices. The application provides a means to scan nearby BLE devices, display device information like name, address and received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and allow users to select and manage detected devices. The development process included requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing and deployment. User experience, functionality and reliability were given high priority during the development lifecycle. The application used basic concepts of Android app development (BluetoothAdapter and BluetoothDevice classes) and user interface design principles for easy navigation and interaction. The report reveals the methodology followed during development, the challenges faced and the solutions implemented to resolve them. It also discusses the potential applications of developed beacon application in real world scenarios such as asset tracking, indoor navigation and proximity-based marketing. In summary, this project shows that BLE can be used for various beacon applications, and it is feasible and practical.
