Summary: | Present Additive Manufacturing techniques nowadays are often utilized for various conventional materials, such as metals, polymers, ceramics, and even composites. Due to its versatility in creating products with complex geometries with superior properties, it has already been integrated into the manufacturing and fabrication processes in many industries, such as aerospace and automobile. However, the usage of such techniques to join dissimilar alloys together is relatively new and has not been fully exploited to its full potential. It has been a struggle to ensure quality interface bonding, interlocking shape, and a good match of thermophysical and chemical properties between dissimilar materials.
This project will aim to focus more on understanding the difference between the usage of different combinations of printing parameters to obtain different dissimilar alloy interface qualities. A comparison would be done between these interfaces in an attempt to obtain the optimal interface bonding performance between CoCrMo-IN625. 53 samples of these dissimilar alloys will undergo metallographic sample preparation to measure and analyse their interface zone thickness and any interface defects discovered. The findings and measurements will finally be linked to the sample’s respective parameters and the calculated volumetric energy densities to comprehend any reasoning or relationship between them, and will be concluded at the end of the report. |
