總結:The objective of this Final Year Project (FYP) is to analyse and investigate the bending response of composite I-beams using a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software called ANSYS Workbench. Different beam models will be set-up from 2 different materials – Carbon Fibre and Toray T700 – and in different ply thickness – 8-ply and 4-ply. ANSYS will then be used to simulate a 3-point bending test on these models to analyse the structural effects of the I-beams. Convergence study was conducted for all models of I-beams to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the simulation results. Stress-strain curves and Force-Deflection curves are plotted from the results of the ANSYS simulations. These results obtained will then be compared to experimental results from past year FYP. It is then found that models made of Toray T700 are much stiffer and elastic and hence has a higher durability than that made of CFRP material. Additionally, simulations were run with roller support, and it is found that stress is distributed with a roller support and lesser bending is present in the I-beam.
