The Collection of Objects features an assemblage of handmade wooden objects, and the natural, original forms from which they were initially derived from, which serves to be a commencement of the establishment of my style and technique as a craftsman. The main methodologies involve woodworking by hand, as well as making use of technology such as a 3D scanner and Computer-Aided-Design programs. The final work hopes to highlight the importance of the process, the humanness in it and the notion that we classify things in a way that we understand them. This has an effect on what we do, from material collection, to seeing the potential in the material, to working with the material and executing the design. It is worthwhile to be mindful of the non-human entities in the process, before we can tackle wider topics like ethics and sustainability. This could potentially go beyond the disciplines of design and craft, and towards our personal belief systems as well. This introduces healthy limits to what we do every day, as this encourages us to consider not only what we can do, but also what we should do. But before that, we should first reflect on our perception of things. This report contains the primary and secondary research done for the project, as well as a full documentation of the process throughout the academic year. Within it, I show how my personal experiences in travel and various conversations, as well as advice from superiors and experienced individuals, have contributed to developing my woodworking techniques, and conceptual growth.
