Summary: | This research analyses one-dimensional heat conduction inside functionally graded materials (FGMs) by employing the finite volume method (FVM). As FGMs are gaining significant traction due to their unique and varying properties, they provide engineers with more freedom in selecting materials to satisfy the objective of different applications. One-dimensional heat equations are applied to account for the different thermal conductivity along the gradient of the FGMS. The partial differential equation is discretised using FVM, which yields a set of algebraic equations that can be solved numerically in an organised and effective manner.
By integrating FVM into the thermal analysis of FGMs, engineers can better understand their thermal behaviour and create and improve materials for higher performance in demanding thermal environments. This research aims to develop an efficient numerical framework using MATLAB to accurately simulate and predict the temperature distribution in FGMs subjected to thermal gradients. |
