Summary:Seawater desalination has a deep historical background, evolving from ancient practices to modern-day techniques focused on resource recovery. This report delves into the critical aspect of bromide removal from brine, seawater and treated brine (BSTB), for the recovery of NaCl for the use in HOCl production. The research gap in the oxidation of Br- ions specifically for the recovery of NaCl, rather than on the reduction of production of Br-DBPs and recovery of Br2. The study's objectives revolve around investigating optimal conditions for bromide removal, focusing on pH levels, PMS concentrations, and reaction times. Key findings indicate that lower pH environments enhance bromide removal, although practical constraints like regulatory pH limits and safety considerations must be balanced. PMS concentration and reaction times also play significant roles in improving removal efficiencies. Higher PMS concentration and longer reaction time lead to higher bromide removal.
