The workshop provided a forum for the spread of information and strategies for the preservation and documentation of the Tibeto-Burman languages of Yunnan. As Yuxi Normal Institute has special responsibility for education in Yuxi City and Honghe and Nujiang prefectures, it is uniquely placed to develop language maintenance strategies for the languages of these areas, which include Hani, Lisu and Yi.
