Description
Summary:In satellite and terrestrial telecommunication links, it has been known that rainfall causes attenuation to these communication links which causes signal levels to be degraded thus affecting the link performance. Therefore, to ensure reliability of communication in a tropical climate like Singapore, the study of the effect of rainfall on communication systems is extremely important. The aim of this project is to develop a 3-dimensional rainfall rate visualization model using Interactive Data Language (IDL) software to visualise the radar data gathered from the Meteorological Service of Singapore (MSS). This is to allow the calculation of attenuation due to rainfall along a slant path in 3-dimensional space. This is an upgrade from the previous program which was created using MatLab but in terms of processing and displaying the data, it took too much time. It could not also calculate the attenuation caused by rainfall for a slant path.
