During the course of this project, I took over the role of further development of the Automated Microscope stage from the previous year students Ignatius Tay and Wong Kee Haw. The first phase of this project includes extensive research in the field of microstepping stepper motors used for the automated microscope stage. I wanted to control my stepper motors using microstep instead of the Full step and Half step mode of operation. The second phase of this project would be to build a microstepping motor driver to control the stepper motor to carry out operations under microstepped conditions. This completed microstepped motor driver will then undergo a series of simulation test to obtain a reference error margin to be compared to the previously used Full step motor driver to determine which has more accurate readings leading to a better automated microscope platform. This report covers the author’s work in the research and development of a microstepped motor driver to further improve the performance on the development of an Automated Microscope.
