Summary:The self excited induction generator has been used in rural areas, answering the calls for more usage or clean and green renewable resources. Its advantages have taken advantage of; like low cost and easy maintenance. However, the generator is not without its own limitation. An example would its poor terminal voltage regulation. When the load is connected to the generator, depending on the load characteristics, the terminal voltage will decrease, thus causing unstable voltage supply to the end users. This project will look into this problem and investigate if a voltage controller, controlling the excitation and compensating capacitors, will be able to rectify this issue. A study was done on previous literatures on the system and cross references have been made. Calculations were made to the design of the controller and simulations results are shown to illustrate the workings of the controller.
