Description
Summary:The study aims to find out the bibliometric characteristics of the articles published in the Raffles Bulletin of Zoology, a biannual publication of the Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore. This is believed to be the first bibliometric study of a zoological journal and it is hoped to determine the similarities or uniqueness of zoology with the other sciences. The data used in this study were taken from articles published from 1993 to 2002. The data were obtained from the hardcopy of the journal itself, the online website of the Bulletin, and the Web of Science, by the Institute for Scientific Information. The study investigates the characteristics of the Raffles Bulletin of Zoology and its impact by bibliometric techniques, which are simple statistical methods of bibliography counting to evaluate and quantify the growth of a subject.
