A study on cup-disc ratios obtained from various image processing algorithms through classification analysis

Glaucoma is the degeneration of optic nerve cells, and is characterized by the changes in the optic nerve head and visual field. Even though, glaucomatous damage is irreversible, early detection and subsequent medical intervention by ophthalmologists is effective in slowing the progression of the di...

Even though, glaucomatous damage is irreversible, early detection and subsequent medical intervention by ophthalmologists is effective in slowing the progression of the disease. The CDR, which is the ratio between the optic cup and disc, is an important indicator of glaucoma [1], as glaucomatous neuropathy results in increased excavation of the optic cup and thus increasing the CDR. Currently, evaluation of CDR is performed manually and is subject to individual evaluation by the ophthalmologists. Furthermore, the dependence on manual grading limits its potential for use in mass screening for early Glaucoma detection.
