Renewable energy opens up the opportunity for a more decentralized energy supply and decreases the pollution caused by the fossil fuel. Building an energy distribution system by integrating renewable energy into conventional distribution system is the most preferred solution to apply renewable energy into commercial use at present.
Intelligent energy distribution system (IEDS) is a system which can determine the most cost efficient proportion of power generation form different distribution sources to minimize the total operation cost.
In this project a small IEDS was set up in the lab, consisting of a renewable energy source of solar panel, a battery bank for energy storage, a synchronous generator simulating other renewable energy and some major controlling components.
A customer friendly graphical user interfaces (GUI) is designed for the proper monitoring and operating each of the components in the IEDS and a battery charging/discharging scheme to prolong the battery bank's useful life is also tested and incorporated in the system. |
