Description
Summary:Photocatalytic zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films were synthesized and characterized on glass. First, a stable zinc peroxide (ZnO2) nano-particle colloid was produced. The 4 reagents were zinc acetate dihydrate, DI water, H2O2 and PEG 200. The colloid was spin coated and spray coated onto glass substrates, then heated at 450oC for 1hr to obtain ZnO thin films. XRD analysis was conducted and confirmed correct ZnO crystals were obtained. Coating development was carried out to determine a process for obtaining a good coating quality. Transmittance, haze and clarity were measured to verify coating quality. Super-hydrophilicity effect was clearly present under UV irradiation for spin coated sample. Very slow oxidation rate under UV irradiation was measured over 64 hours for all samples.
