Description
Summary:Draft tube reactors also known as airlift column reactors have been the one of the most researched topics in recent decades. The design, scale up and performances require heavy extensive and accurate information from experimental results. Therefore the aims of this thesis would be to investigate the most excellent condition for optimum performances of the draft tube reactors. Thus, this thesis employs the use CFD methods which are most commonly used in literature to examine the following parameters that affect the system, gas flux into the bubble reactor column, liquid circulation velocity coupled with shear stress and lastly the height clearance at the top and bottom of the draft tube reactor. Results gathered showed promising conclusions on the optimum height, gas flux and also the optimum shear stresses that would not result in cell lyase. However, the conclusions were an idealized case thus they require additional CFD simulations to validate the results.
