Description
Summary:The existence of the DC-DC converter around us has been around 20 years and throughout these years, their enhancements and developments has made them a fast emerging market. Thus, their popularity in portable devices has also grown rapidly. Today, DC-DC converters have become important blocks for applications in notebooks, mobile phones and PDA etc. A compact CMOS analog-based DC-to-DC converter with fast response will be attractive in the sense that it emphasizes on appropriate design approaches to achieve a performance which is as high as possible whilst still addressing the low cost design issues In the past, for current mode buck converters, error amplifier and voltage comparator will usually be the choice for designers. This project provides an alternative by exploring into the comparison of signals through current mode. With fast transient response of the current mode DC-DC buck converter achieved by using current comparator and replacing the error amplifier with V-I converter, the student looks into using just the current comparator and resistor to fulfill the fast transient response and significantly reduce the size of the DC-DC buck converter.
