The second piece, Julie's Chongqing Stories, shifts the perspective to Julie, a
character from the first story. This serves as the preface to Julie's book and acts as a transition, introducing the next short story, The Wish.
The Wish is authored by Julie, the character from the first story. It tells the tale of Dupe Chen, a man who worked as a porter in Chongqing for decades. After being swindled out of his money, changes his job to become a taxi driver, and encountered a murder suspect. This story highlights the predicament faced by traditional Bang-bang (porter) groups in Chongqing, represented by Dupe Chen, as they confront unemployment in the face of social development. |
