Description
Summary:The potential ability to increase the capacity and safety on roads, as well as fuel economy gains has made vehicle platooning an appealing prospect. However, its use is yet to be widespread, partially due to the security concerns on its communication network. In this report, these platoons and the communications that govern their operation shall be investigated. Specifically, the security of their communication networks, and how it could be susceptible to various cyber-attacks. How these cyber-attacks come about, and what efforts have been made by recent research to counter these attacks against platoons will also be explored. Finally, the contributions made in this project to solve the research problem are covered, which includes a proposed secure vehicular authentication scheme for platoons which is resistant to the threats of Sybil attacks as well as a proposed platoon management scheme that incorporates blockchain technology to counter other typical cyber-attacks.
