Description
Summary:Polypropylene (PP) hollow fiber membranes, despite its popularity and uses, comes with its drawbacks. Nanocomposites have been integrated into the polypropylene matrix before, with promising results, but there has not been much attempt to implement these nanocomposites into hollow fiber membranes. This project investigates polypropylene-nanocomposite (PPNC) hollow fiber membranes and compares it with standard PP hollow fiber membranes. Both PP and PPNC hollow fiber membranes are manufactured with the same process and parameters, then they are compared with each other in terms of mechanical strength, crystallinity, and morphology. PPNC hollow fiber membranes are shown to have improved strength and microstructure over PP, while maintaining similar morphology. PPNC may have a future in the porous polymer membrane space, encouraging investigation to PPNC hollow fiber membranes to continue.
