Description
Summary:This work presents the synthesis of carbon from polypropyelene. The carbonization is modelled after the works of (Choi et al., 2017) as polyethylene and polypropylene is chemically similar as they are both polymers. Polypropylene is pretreated by oxidizing in a muffle furnace and from experimentation the optimal temperature to obtain the most amount of carbon is 330°C as it produced 2.2% of the initial weight in carbon after carbonizing. This method may be applied onto other polymers as well and might enable more polymers to be upcycled as well.
