Description
Summary:This project aims to evaluate the performance of a power amplifier in its ability to transmit electrical signals to an underwater sonar transducer. Focusing on a class D amplifier the project begins with a literature review which is conducted on the different applications of power amplifiers and different types of power amplifier class. Thereafter we design and develop a class D amplifier high-power stage based on the design parameter data extracted from an actual transducer. Subsequently the selection of the high-power stage components, circuitry design and development stage. Also mentioning the layout guidance information provided to the vendor. Finally, the evaluation of the results of the class D amplifier and the potential future work for the better performance of the board. Additionally, a linear amp circuit was also developed to compare the performance. The motivation for this project started with the curiosity to learn about the inner workings of a class D amplifier system in order to have a deeper understanding and appreciation.
