Summary:Augmented Reality (AR) is a rapidly growing technology that connects the digital and the real world, it has been implemented in various industries. In recent years, it has become more commonly recognized by individuals due to the emergence of hand-held gadgets like mobile phones and tablets. This project aims to develop PetXEL, an innovative mobile application that integrates Augmented Reality (AR) technology to enhance the photo-taking experience with virtual pets. The application incorporates both marker-based and markerless tracking techniques, utilising Unity3D and AR Foundation to provide users with the ability to place, interact with, and photograph virtual animals in their real environment. Key functionalities include character selection, photo taking and automatic saving to the device gallery. The report outlines the objectives, implementation processes, and challenges encountered during development, while also discussing future improvements such as expanding the character library and optimising storage.
