Synthesis of covert sensor-actuator attacker for networked DES with non-FIFO channels

This study explores the synthesis of covert sensor-actuator attacks within networked discrete-event systems (DES) within non-FIFO channels. These systems operate in environments where both the observation and control channels are subject to random but bounded network-induced delays. To address this...

These systems operate in environments where both the observation and control channels are subject to random but bounded network-induced delays. To address this challenge, we propose a novel methodology that reformulates the covert attack synthesis problem into the well-established Ramadge-Wonham supervisor synthesis framework. This simplification allows for a systematic approach to model and analyze covert attacks in both damage-reachable and damage-nonblocking scenarios. Furthermore, we extend our analysis to special cases where actuator attacks are absent, causing the sensor-actuator attack model to reduce solely to sensor-based attacks. In this scenario, we prove that if any covert sensor attack is feasible, the supremal covert sensor attack is guaranteed to exist within the networked DES. This result highlights the significance of considering both sensor and actuator vulnerabilities in the networked control systems.
