Loh Poh Chiang, Andrew Wang Peng School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering::Electric power::Production, transmission and distribution The objective of this dissertation project is to develop and implement a small-scale grid-connected solar/electricity conversion system for home electricity supply. Theoretical studies of photovoltaic and modeling techniques are discussed using equivalent electrical circuits. To ensure the photovoltaic modules delivering the maximum power, various maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms and control methods are investigated, and a simple but robust approach is developed and implemented in the conversion system. To reduce the system complexity and cost, a single stage current controlled voltage source inverter (CCVSI) is constructed, which can convert DC power generated by photovoltaic cells into AC power (50 Hz, 110V). a control strategy is designed to connect toe conversion system to the local distributed system with synchronization. Power quality problem is also considered and a novel time delay control scheme is proposed to compensate the reactive power demanded by variation loads and eliminate harmonic distortion caused by nonlinear loads. Mathematical modeling, computer simulations and experimental results are presented for validating the performance of the proposed system.
