Description
Summary:The purpose of this paper is to explore the development of a numerical scheme which employs a more general Riemann Problem (generalized Riemann Problem, or GRP). A key characteristic of this GRP is the use of higher-order functions (instead of first-order piecewise functions) for approximating the actual flow, so as to obtain a more accurate numerical solution. The key motivation behind the development of GRP is to ultimately apply to aerodynamic applications. However, for testing purposes, it is more convenient to validate the GRP on a simpler flow scenario (governed by the same physical laws as most aerodynamic flows of numerical concern). Our test case would be the shock tube problem.
