Description
Summary:CCTV News, the first national 24-hour news channel in China, was launched in 2003. Three years later, it has become the leading 24-hour news channel in China, a milestone in the history of TV news broadcast in China. The results of this study show that the Chinese government has given much leeway to the news media at the micro level, but it has not given up its media control at the macro level. Although the news media in China have become more and more compatible with the global practices, the fundamental principle of sticking to the party line has not changed. And it will remain influential in determining what to broadcast and what not to broadcast for years to come as long as the fundamental political system does not change.
