In this process, the single team members exert considerable influence on each other and thereby greatly determine the quality of the final results. In line with the concept of organizational energy that describes the extent to which a team has mobilized its emotional, cognitive, and behavioral potential in pursuit of its goals*, the preent study aims at investigating how individual behavior translates into the organizational energy of the team and which behavior lead to which energy states. Furthermore, this study wants to answer the question why certain individuals are more influential on organizational energy than others and finally illustrate strategies for promoting productive and alleviating destructive individual behavior by means of informal leadership. Therefore, the results of a case study with the male Swiss volleyball national team are compared to the findings from an extensive literature review. The paper concludes by providing 13 propositions that reflext the results of the present study and shall serve as a basis for further research.
