Summary: | Based on the kinematic wave equations, explicit expressions for estimating the time of
concentration and the maximum peak discharge from an overland plane have been derived. For practical applications, these expressions have been developed in terms of the Manning and Darcy-Weisbach resistance coefficients. A comparison of the formulations using these two resistance coefficients shows that the kinematic-Manning
formulations correspond to the near turbulent flow regime. By applying the derived formulas to an urbanizing plane, the effects of urbanization sequence on the time of concentration and the maximum discharge are assessed. Two urbanization sequences are considered: one from downstream to upstream, and the other from upstream to downstream. |
