Description
Summary:Small scale laboratory model tests and bigger scale (trench) tests were carried out to study the behaviour of nailed soil retaining structures. The influence of different design parameters such as the nail length, nail inclination, facing stiffness and the method of nail installation process on the behaviour of the nailed soil walls was investigated. Pull-out tests were conducted to study the mobilised bond stress at the nail/soil interface. Case histories of nailed soil walls reported in the literature were reviewed to establish an empirical basis for the selection of input parameters for design. The performance of a full-scale nailed soil wall in Singapore was studied and analysed.
