Moreover, in view of the limited potential for growth of the local construction market, Singapore contractors are compelled to seek opportunities in the fast growing Asian markets. This development coincides with the government's call for building an external economy for Singapore. This phenomenon is essentially the "Push and Pull" effect reflecting the hunger for infrastructural development in the Asian countries and the repelling forces to push Singapore contractors overseas for survival due to limited potential locally.
